Canada - Parents and Grandparents Program reopens on January 28
As per the announcement of the federal government, Canada’s Parents and Grandparents Program is all set to reopen on January 28 to sponsors having an interest in it.

This program, gives permission to citizens and permanent residents Canada, who are above the age of 18 years, to sponsor their parents or grandparents to get the permanent residence. Moreover, IRCC has set an ambitious target of processing 20,000 new PGP applications in 2019. Interested persons intending to sponsor these relatives need to initially complete an online Interest-to-Sponsor form. This will be available from noon EST on January 28. IRCC has a plan to process these forms in the sequence of receiving.

Additional facts

It will issue invitations to apply to the P.G.P. until it meets the program cap of 20,000 applications. This approach, based on the timing of arrival, to accept applications is a replacement for the random lottery process introduced by IRCC last year. Subsequently, it was scrapped. There was a criticism that this random approach was unfair for many persons. They had to wait for several years for sponsoring their parents/grandparents.

Working of Interest to Sponsor:

Completing this form does not serve as an application, but as a notification to IRCC of the wish to seek consideration as a sponsor. All interested sponsors need to review and meet the eligibility requirements. They must also note the requirements regarding the Minimum Necessary Income.

IRCC requires all potential sponsors for uploading a copy of their status in Canada document while submitting their interest-to-sponsor form. All individuals submitting the online form will also receive notification regarding their invitation or not. The persons receiving an invitation to apply will get 60 days to submit their application, and also provide all the supporting documents. We bring the latest updates on all announcements and patrons can contact us.
