Indian-American announces candidature for US Congress
Jitendra Diganvker, an Indian-American businessman and community worker, has announced his intention to run for the House of Representatives when the Congressional elections are held in 2018. If elected in the primaries, by the Republican Party, he would be competing against Raja Krishnamoorthi, Democratic Incumbent, from the 8th Congressional District of Illinois.

This District is a suburb of Chicago and has a considerable Indo-American population. Krishnamoorthi has earned a proud place for himself in the US Congress, by articulating strong views on important issues like the economy, immigration and national security. He enjoys the confidence of the former President Obama.

Diganvker said that he is in the running only to lend a voice to the middle-class Americans who are hard-working and ignored by career politicians based in Washington DC. He said that through the Immigration to a great country, he and his family experienced many fluctuations. His family had arrived in America to pursue the American dream and to succeed (or fail) through commitment and hard work. He had the aim to become the voice of the people who were left behind, because of the fact that his family was also one of them.

He had a personal tragedy and lost two daughters to a fire accident in 1999. This had made him a compassionate servant of the community. He witnessed how troublesome government rules were and how rising health care costs curbed the entrepreneurial spirit.

He reiterated that he was not a politician, who pass laws but fail to feel the impact of their actions. He hailed from the real America, understood its struggles and knew actual consequences of action, and inaction, of the government. He wanted to be the voice of common Americans.

Presently, The US House of Representative has four Indian Americans- Ami Bera and Ro Khanna (California), Raja Krishnamoorthi (Illinois) and Pramila Jayapal from Washington.  All these candidates face re-election in 2018.  California based Kamala Harris is the first American Senator of Indian origin.
