IRCC: NEW ESTIMATION METHODOLOGY FOR PROCESSING TIMES

Based on a news release, IRCC has announced regarding using a new method to estimate the processing times for several types of PR applications. This aims to make the processing time estimates in an accurate manner, and provide comfort to the applicants.

CHANGES

This method will estimate the processing time depending on how long the application will take for processing in normal circumstances. The condition is in case the application is submitted on the same day, when the processing time is checked.

Prior to this change, the estimated processing time was not calculated in this manner. Furthermore IRCC estimated the processing time by using the time required to process 80% of similar applications in the previous year. Thus the new method has a design to present more accurate estimate of time the application will take in the processing stage.

PROGRAMS TO FEEL THE IMPACT

This method is presently in use for these permanent residence applications:

Additionally, an important to note is that in this new estimation method, the estimate of the processing times is not a guarantee. There is an assumption that in the new method an application will be submitted on the date a candidate checks the tool and it will be submitted in normal conditions.

There is a possibility of the change in conditions between the date of checking the estimated processing time and the date of actual submission. Finally, because of this fact the actual processing of an application will get a short or long time compared to the estimate by IRCC.
