PEI Invites 150 Immigration Candidates to Apply in a New Draw -23rd March, 2019

In its draw held on March 21, Prince Edward Island has issued fresh invitations to immigration candidates.  The Island holds monthly draws for candidates who submit an Expression of Interest in the immigrant nominee program.

The details

PEI, along with other provinces and territories of Canada, takes part in the Provincial Nominee Program. It allows them to nominate a fixed number of candidates to seek Canadian PR each year. The province issued 150 invitations to candidates of Labor Impact, Express Entry, and Business Impact categories in this draw. So far PEI PNP has issued 440 invitations in this year.

The strength of the Express Entry and Labor Impact candidates was 131 to receive the invitation in this draw. Now they can apply to provincial nominee program, of the PEI seeking the PR nomination. There is no breakdown of the invitations presently.

Furthermore, there are 19 entrepreneur candidates who received the invitation in the Business Impact: Work Permit Stream. Moreover, they can apply to the PEI PNP and seek the letter of support for a temporary work permit.

Express Entry, Labor Impact invitations

The Express Entry category of the PEI has a link with the federal system, which administers the pool of candidates for economic immigration categories. These are:

  • Canadian Experience Class
  • Federal Skilled Trades Class and finally
  • Federal Skilled Worker Class,

All Express Entry candidates interested to get consideration for the provincial nomination from the Island have to complete a separate EOI profile with the Provincial Program.

The profiles get the EOI score, out of 100. This depends upon work experience, education, and language proficiency. The candidates having the highest ranking get the invitation to apply to seek the provincial nomination in the monthly draws.    Furthermore, the Express Entry candidates receiving the provincial nomination also obtain 600 more points in their EE ranking score.

The Provincial Labor Impact Category is not aligned to the Express Entry system and is also divided into streams (EOI-based)

  • International Graduates
  • Skilled Workers (in PEI and outside Canada), and finally
  • Critical Workers

Candidates in the above streams must work in PEI or also have a long-term, and full-time job offer from a provincial employer, among other criteria.

Entrepreneur invitations

Business Impact Work Permit Stream caters to the need of eligible overseas entrepreneurs having either the business ownership or also an experience in management. They have to invest in the PEI and also manage a business in it. The stream operates on an EOI basis and the score of the lowest-ranking candidate in this draw was 110.
