Australia Parent Visa

DIBP's latest information on parent visa:

Effective 02 June 2014, the following streams of visas under Family Stream Migration program have been closed to new applications.

  • Carer visa (subclasses 116 and 836)
  • Remaining Relative visa (subclasses 115 and 835)
  • Aged Dependent Relative visa (subclasses 114 and 838)
  • Aged Parent visa (subclass 804)
  • Parent visa (subclass 103)

Parents, who wish to immigrate to Australia, can choose Contributory Parent (Temporary) visa (subclass 173) and Contributory Parent (Migrant) visa (subclass 143) visa subclasses

Overview:

People planning to migrate to Australia can opt for Australia parent visa to reside with their children, who must be either permanent residents of Australia or citizens of Australia or qualified citizens of New Zealand.

Applicants outside Australia can avail the following visa subclasses:

Parent (Migrant) visa (subclass 103)

Parents, who have children residing in Australia, can apply for Parent (Migrant) visa (subclass 103)

Contributory Parent (Migrant) visa (subclass 143)

Contributory Parent (Migrant) visa (subclass 143) is similar to subclass 103 with quick process rate and comparatively more cost.

Contributory Parent (Temporary) visa (subclass 173)

Subclass 173 lets the parents to migrate temporarily for a maximum duration of two years .Parents are suggested to avail subclass 143 if they plan to migrate permanently

Privileges:

Privileges granted to (subclass 103/143) Australian parent visa holders:

  • Stay in Australia for an indefinite period
  • Work as well as study in Australia
  • Medicare enrollment
  • Eligible to file application for Australian citizenship, if qualified
  • Authorized to sponsor entitled relatives for residence on permanent basis
  • Eligible for social security benefits after the stay in Australia for two years.

Approved privileges for holders of (subclass 173) Australia Parent Visa:


  • Stay in Australia for two years
  • Study along with work in Australia
  • Enroll in Australia's Medicare scheme

Requirements

  • Has to be a parent of either citizen or permanent resident of Australia or an entitled citizen of New Zealand living in Australia
  • Applicant must hold good health
  • Applicants filing their visa applications when in Australia must satisfy the age criteria of 65 for men and 60-65 for women
  • Guarantee support
  • Satisfy balance of family test, which requires minimum half of the children as Australian citizens/permanent residents or entitled citizens of New Zealand residing in Australia or have more number of children as Australian citizens/permanent residents or qualified citizens of New Zealand staying in Australia when compared to any other country
  • Has to sponsored by the child or child's  partner, whose age must over 18 years of age
