New Zealand Skilled Migrant Category via Licensed Advisor

The SMC (Skilled Migrant Category) offers you opportunity to move to New Zealand to live and work permanently. The SMC visa is issued initially for 2 years and can be converted to PR after settling successfully in NZ and meeting residence requirements.

Overview of Skilled Migrant Category


To apply under skilled migrant category applicant must meet certain requirements

  • Applicant need to be aged 55 or under
  • Nominate an occupation on the INZ’s List of Skilled Occupations and meet the entry-level requirements for that occupation.
  • Applicant must meet character, Standards of health, English language before starting the process.

The Expression of interest:

This is the 1st step towards making application. If you qualify you can submit expression of interest in which you claim points for experience, skills and other factors.

 Expression of Interest pool and the pool draw:

On your EOI if you claimed 100 points or more the applicant can submit it into pool. Every expression of interest over 140 points are automatically selected and the validity of the information is assessed.  The applicant is issued an ITA (Invitation to apply).

Invitation to Apply:

Following an invitation received from New Zealand in response to your invitation, you are required to apply for your residence visa at the nearest processing centers. The processing centers vary as per the applicant’s country of residence.


  • Expression of Interest NZ$510
  • NZQA Pre Assessment: NZ$138
  • NZQA Full Assessment: NZ$746
  • Resident Visa – Skilled Migrant Category NZ$1500 – NZ$2,400 (depending on where you are currently residing).
  • Migrant Levy NZ$310 per successful applicant aged five or over, NZ$155 per successful applicant aged under five years.

* New Zealand Qualification Assessment (if required):If your qualifications are not listed in the recognized institutes exempted from assessment, you need a Pre-assessment result to file your EOI application and upon approval must get the International qualifications assessment completed to submit with your residence visa application.
